Cardinal Dery Scholars Program
This program is named after the late Cardinal Peter Dery of Nandom who is credited with providing education for hundreds of promising students from the north, including the father of the founder. The cause for the canonization for Cardinal Dery commenced in June 2013 with the nihil obstat declared in July 2013 giving him the title “Servant of God.” Cardinal Dery Scholars program represents a transformative initiative designed to provide catalytic financial assistance for students from low socio-economic backgrounds who have already received scholarships but require additional funding to be able to take advantage of these opportunities. We fund expenses not typically covered by scholarships and that require modest support such as airfare, transportation fees, visa fees, accommodation and related needs. This program recognizes the nuanced challenges faced by students on scholarships and seeks to act as a catalyst for their academic jour
ney, providing targeted assistance to alleviate specific barriers that may hinder their progress. By offering this strategic financial support, the Cardinal Dery Scholars program aims to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those individuals who demonstrate exceptional promise but are currently hindered by financial constraints, enabling them to navigate their academic pursuits successfully.
Sangu Delle Scholars (SDS)
The Sangu Delle Scholars program awards a Prize for Academic Excellence to final year high school students, starting with students in Nandom, with plans to scale nationwide over time. SDS aims to recognize and reward exceptional academic achievements. SDS will grant the selected high school student with a comprehensive package, including a cash prize, a brand-new laptop, and a cash contribution towards first year university fees. The criteria for selection include academic excellence, leadership, community service and extra-curricular achievement (sports, music, theater and others).
In ensuring the integrity of the selection process, the foundation will collaborate closely with the leadership of the participating high schools, as well as the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to meticulously evaluate and ensure a meritocratic process. This commitment to a fair and transparent assessment underscores the foundation’s dedication to acknowledging and supporting the outstanding academic accomplishments of students, without regard to background. Through this program, the Sangu Delle Foundation seeks to motivate and empower the next generation of leaders, fostering a culture of excellence and educational attainment in the local community. This program will initially focus on Nandom and will be scaled nationwide over time.
Patrick Awuah School Support Grant
Named in honor of Patrick Awuah, the Founder and President of Ashesi University and one of the world’s greatest social entrepreneurs, this grant program is aimed at providing financial assistance to basic schools in Ghana that are facing urgent needs, ensuring that they have the essential resources to offer quality education, starting with Nandom, with intentions to scale across the Upper West Region, and ultimately across Ghana.
The Patrick Awuah School Support Grant is designed to address critical gaps in educational infrastructure and supplies, which are pivotal for enhancing the learning environment and outcomes for students. We recognize that many basic schools, especially in under-resourced areas, struggle to provide their students with basic educational materials such as books, desks, and teaching aids. This grant aims to alleviate these pressing challenges, enabling schools to better serve their students and communities.
We invite applications from basic schools in Nandom that demonstrate a clear and immediate need for support in acquiring vital educational resources. The grant intends to fund necessities like textbooks, classroom furniture, teaching materials, and other critical supplies that directly impact student learning and teacher effectiveness.
By offering the Patrick Awuah School Support Grant, the Sangu Delle Foundation aspires to empower educational institutions across Ghana, helping them to overcome resource constraints and enhance the overall educational experience for their students. We believe that by investing in the foundational needs of schools, we can foster an environment conducive to learning, creativity, and growth.
Francis Hukpati Teacher’s Excellence Award
Named in honor of Francis Hukpati, an inspirational educator whose profound influence and dedication shaped the formative years of our founder from 1998 to 2004, the Francis Hukpati Teacher’s Excellence Award is a testament to the indelible impact that exceptional teachers can have on their students and communities, recognizing and celebrating the extraordinary commitment of junior high teachers across Ghana.
The award acknowledges the myriad of challenges teachers face daily, from extensive commutes and personal investments in classroom resources to the provision of extra tuition and the pursuit of academic excellence for every student. These educators often go above and beyond, demonstrating remarkable perseverance, ingenuity, and a deep-rooted passion for teaching.
A critical aspect of this award is the recognition of teachers who not only excel in their instructional duties but also significantly enhance their students’ performance, particularly in the BECE/WASSCE examinations. We aim to identify educators who demonstrate outstanding multitasking skills, innovative teaching methods, and an ability to inspire substantial academic improvement in their subject area.
The recipient of the Francis Hukpati Teacher’s Excellence Award will receive a cash prize in acknowledgment of their outstanding contribution to education. Additionally, recognitions and financial awards will extend to the respective head teacher and school, reinforcing our appreciation for their collective role in nurturing academic achievement and fostering a supportive educational environment.
While the award will commence in Nandom, it is designed with a vision to expand and honor exceptional educators nationwide. Through this initiative, the foundation aspires not only to celebrate exemplary teaching but also to elevate the status of the teaching profession, encouraging educators across Ghana to strive for excellence and make a lasting difference in the lives of their students.
